Food security for rural population is facing severe challenges in the context of climate change. Transformation of traditional agriculture to conservation farming has become an urgent need today. The constitution of Nepal has authorized all 3 tiers of government for promotion of agriculture sector, however, Local Governments (LGs) are more responsible to hear voices of the local farmers-especially the vulnerable communities. The LGs have established Agriculture and Livestock Section- lead by an Agriculture Officer- at municipality level with its expanded wings at Ward level.
Internalizing the need of transferring knowledge of transformation of traditional agriculture to conservation farming among the municipalities’ Agriculture Technician, AID Nepal trained 35 agriculture technicians from different 8 municipalities of Okhaldhunga and Khotang districts under Partnership of UNDP’S DCRL Project with mobilization of Scientists from Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) as Resource Persons. The five days residential training successfully equipped the agriculture technicians with key challenges, approaches, methodologies, tools and benefits of the conservation farming for climate resilient livelihoods promotion and integrated watershed management.
